The Devi worshiped on this day is Shailaputri, and the flower to be used is Jasmine or Mallige.
The thithi is Paadya or Prathama. The Neivedhyam to be offered is Ven Pongal.
The designated color is Yellow and the Kolam or Rangoli is Pottu Kolam using Rice flour.
The Raaga to be used to pray to the Goddess is Thodi, and the Shloka to be chanted to Shailaputri for protecting us is as follows:
